Hi Just wonder if anyone can shed some light on this? My friends and i were fishing yesterday at the Glynn river near Larne. An old man stopped and told us that he owned the fishing rights to the river. I replied that i had a rod license and that there were no signs displayed to indicated that the river was
privately owned. I told him to display the necessary documentation to indicate that he owned the rights which he didn't do. I also offered to pay him if indeed he owned the rights. Eventually he conceded that we could continue fishing for the rest of the day. Turned out to be a rotten day no fish and it rained continuously! Does anyone know who owns the rights to this river?

As far as I know, no one owns the fishing rights to any river , but the access to the river can be controled, ie:your club fees if you are a member of one your club fees go to subsidise farmers and landowners which gain club members access to the water. Due to this reason waters that run through towns, access to these stretches of water are free to fish as long as the angler holds the appropriate rod license.

cheers for the reply. I'll just keep on fishing! It would be good though to see this wee river fixed up by a club a few pools would definitely help. I'm sure a few sea trout and salmon would be in this river later on in the season.
