as far as im aware its still banned on the foyle system, it was under review. but shrimpers alley at the new bridge in strabane will be died purple come may and june when the grilse hit regardless. it should not be banned anyway no need when there are tags and bag limits. and its not 100% Seen myself follow the shrimpers on river with a fly or worm and lift where the shrimp failed.

on mourne all use black long shank single. and the float is creative to. take a safety pin and remove the head slid it up the lin the cut a piece of polystyrene into a rectangular shape and inssert the pin into it. you loose the float when you strike but also you can strike it off if bailiffs come. very handy,

because you loose so much fish with the prawn, and dont wanna leave any injured i usually use an aberdeen hook, but if the fish are being very nippy or just sucking the eggs i would use a wee tiny tiny treble and pin,

only use prawns, shrimps fall off after every blemming cast lol. use purples ones all year except in the autum, id use red. or shaggers, a prawn and then another smaller prawn, or pointer at the hook point, in a 69 position lol? never had much success with it, but seen loads being caught with it lol

I've had the pleasure of being taught to shrimp by one of the best guys around down here.(Omagh). I was taught to use an eagle claw size2 or 4 single hook, these are especially good as they have barbs below the eye which are great for holding a shrimp on a hook. For a float we just use a wine cork. Taper the cork at one end and slice into the cork with a fillet or stanley blade then just run your line through the slit in the cork again when striking you loose your cork. When fishing the shrimp keep adjusting the depth of your shrimp until it is nearly on the bottom you will get more takes this way, I found a high fished shrimp can spook quicker than attract. JMO. Tight lines lads.

i use to use the cork to mate, after hearing about it it hugh falkuses book. stopped after missing a few tho, and getting the nickname huckleberry fin lol. best floats i found, where down in mayo, they are made for prawning only, there are similar to pike floats, but have a very long tube above the float, to keep the line up of the water, but also when it knocks side to side will give more motion to the prawn and help entice the fish. will try a pic up
