Thomas Berggren is a 42 year old EFFA certified Flycasting Instructor (European Fly Fishing Association). He is a Scandinavian Instructor & Guide with 30 years experience of both single & two-handed fly-fishing. A few years ago Thomas started Lilla Malma Fishery in Sweden. This fishery has since developed into a Loop Fly Fishing School.  In the mid 1980s, Thomas met Goran Andersson for the first time. Goran is the ”father” of the Scandinavian underhand technique with shooting heads. At that time Thomas was a student at Goran’s Fly Casting school. As one of the most skilful students, Thomas was soon drafted into the Loop team.   Besides the single-handed fly-casting courses he runs at Lilla Malma, Thomas gives tuition on Double Handed Rod & Salmon fishing in Norway every summer. His specialty is the underhand technique using shooting heads.
Thomas will be assisted by Ireland’s own Glenda Powell – another member of the prestigious Loop No. 1 Pro Team.

Programme
Saturday’s course will commence with a presentation in the Lodge on shooting heads, their advantages/disadvantages and setting up.  Thomas  will demystify :
- Rod requirements
- how to put lines  together
- how to get the weights right for the rod
- choice of running lines etc etc.
Thereafter, it’s off to the river where we have a casting platform for a demo on shooting heads followed by a workshop/casting clinic.  Throughout the day - whilst giving instruction on shooting heads – we’ll compare them with Spey lines, highlight the common casting faults with both methods, and give participants the chance to improve their technique with both methods.
Course notes will be provided for participants.
Thomas will be at Blackwater Lodge from January 31 to February 3 inclusive, so it’s a great opportunity to meet him Friday or Saturday night for a course group dinner as well.
