Was wondering if any of you guys on here fly fish for sea trout in the surf and where do you fish for them? I regularly fish for them with fly and spun sandeels at Ballyshannon, Mullaghmore and the Grange on the west coast. If fishing for sea trout in the surf what is your preferred method and why? tight lines.
eamon although i havent done it ive heard of lads doing it at runkerry at the causeway and at whitepark bay but as i say i never saw it done just heard lads talking about it, although theres always seatrout caught at runkerry every year on the spinner

I've had fish up to 5 1/2lb on spun frozen and live sandeel fished beneath a bubble float. When they take in the surf it's a real ferocious take nothing like what you gaet in the river.I've seen small sea trout swallow a 4 inch sandeel with no problems at all, can be frustrating at times though swallowing hooks. _________________ Lets kill some vermin.

Ballyshannon estuary is good, drive to Bundoran but take a right at the Kentucky just at the head of the town, follow that road and you'll come to a car park, park there and walk along the beach until you reach where the ocean enters the estuary, this is where I've had some big fish up to 5 1/2 lbs. Sandeel is best live if you can get them. Mackerel strips cut from the underside are also good. Mullaghmore 5 miles beyond Bundoran is also good throwing up fish up to the 3lb mark. The grange futher on from Mullaghmore is also good but finding the fish can take a while but when you do it's stand clear. Rosnowlagh fished well last season most fish being taken on ledgered sandeel on beach rods, rag and mackerel accounted for quite a few fish also. Sea trout season in the surf realy begins back end of march beginning of april and all the forementioned places will give fish up until late July. _________________ Lets kill some vermin.
